District Projects

Due to the semi-arid climate and low rainfall, the majority of the Weinan population depend on wells for water supply. Since well water originates from the Yellow River and its branches, which bring with them soil sediments from Loess Plateau, the well water is muddy & undrinkable.
Rotary District 3450 started a pilot project to help purify drinking water for 4 schools in Weinan City in 2011-2012 which was very successful. In cooperation with Skyjuice Foundation, an Australian charitable organization, Phase II helped another 43 schools within Shaanxi province, benefiting more than 200,000 students.
In Phase III, Rotary plans to install purification systems in 100 schools to benefit even more people. Total cost approximately US$1 million. Our success in Shaanxi & Ningxia has drawn government attention, they are now willing to take over 80% of the costs for this project. We still have to bring $200,000.- It is expected that clean water will benefit 500,000 people in 10 years.
